Repotting a centerpiece

Assignment: We were assigned to repot with an existing round wide planter.  This pot is meant for semi outdoor with some indirect natural sunlight.

Concept/Solution: To create a canopy of foliage as a mild shade for the lower level plants. In the meantime, they will also filter the harsh sunlight and provide an even ray for the lower tier.

After emptied the remaining soil and gravel, activated charcoal were added to the base. This is to create a porous foundation for the pot. The activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen, which creates a fine, porous material. It rids the soil of impurities, repels insects and prevent mould. It may also help staunch unpleasant odours. Later, Drimiopsis Maculata was positioned in the middle of the round pot. White big stones were used to stablize and provide support to the plants.

As for the remaining pot, we have selected Kalanchoe Millotii (left) and Graptopetalum Paraguayense (right). The surface was then covered with coloured pebbles. We added some fine baby blue sand to mimic the waterfall flow  as a final touch.

Maintenance: Water the pot once or twice in a week. Allow the soil to dry out partially between watering. If left dry for too long the lower leaves will dry up and turn brown. Since the succulents love the natural sunlight, it is advisable to place the pot at bright corner with indirect sunlight.

Special Care: Dust/Clean the leaves every fortnight to free them from dust accumulation/ bugs attack.

Plant type: Drimiopsis Maculata (center), Kalanchoe Millotii (left) and Graptopetalum Paraguayense (right).

Planter Makeover with new plants and arrangement

After emptied the remaining soil, gravel and activated charcoal were added to the base. This was to create a porous foundation for the pot. Then, Syngonium was carefully transported to the new pot. and positioned it to the desired height and angle. At this moment, the plant won't be standing firm as its roots were not stable. You can use support elements like rock/ stilt to stabilise it.

Repotting challenge

Assignment: It was an orchid home before turning barren. We were assigned to repot with the existing ceramic planter.  This pot will be placed indoor with some indirect natural sunlight.

Concept/Solution: In order to accentuate the height of the geometric patterned vase, we propose Syngonium.  This beautiful arrow-shaped foliage plant do not like direct exposure to sunlight. Hence, they thrive better under low-to-medium light condition.

As for the remaining pot, we potted fittonia in various shades of green and red. The surface was later covered with coloured pebbles as a final touch.

Maintenance: Water the pot once in 2-3 days. Allow the soil to dry out partially between watering. If left dry for too long the lower leaves will dry up and turn brown.

Special
Care: Dust/clean the leaves every fortnight to free them from dust accumulation/ bugs attack. It would also help a lot to mist the plant as often as possible with water.
